Job Description

What does it mean for us to be missionaries?

There are many different jobs that international workers do: church planting, leadership training, humanitarian aid, etc. So let us tell you about our calling.

Many years ago we were involved in a course that YWAM offers that teaches people how to read the Bible well. Beginning with observation (what does the text say?), going into Interpretation (Why did the author write it for the original readers?) and then ending with application (What does this mean for me today?). Once we learned these basics, we went through the whole bible verse by verse, book by book, looking at each passage with these three steps in 9 months. It was revolutionary- to our lives, to our thoughts, to our concepts of God. Many of the passages that seemed difficult to understand suddenly were made clear. We realized that this was a missing piece in our lives as Christians and that we wanted to help others understand the Bible better as well.

Even more than that, we knew that we could only teach a few people throughout our life time, but it would be much more effective to take others who had done this course through the Bible, and teach them also how to teach it to others. In this way we could multiply ourselves. So we decided to join YWAM in a particular ministry called Titus Project. Since 2007 we have been working with Titus Project, and also the 9 month Bible school (School of Biblical Studies). First we were in Taiwan for training and then we moved to Ukraine to pioneer this ministry in Europe.

Over the years our ministry has expanded to included leadership in YWAM Kyiv, Ukraine as well as helping other YWAM Bible programs around Europe. It has been quite a journey. Now we find ourselves in a unique place during the war. We are settling in Budapest until the end of the 2024 school year and we will continue to serve the YWAM Bible schools in Europe, as well as do our best to multiply new Bible teachers. The mission hasn’t changed, but the location has for now.

When students go to college they pay tuition and this amount helps to cover the salary of the professors. However, the students that we teach usually barely have enough money to cover their food and housing, so we offer them our teaching for free. This means that someone has to cover our expenses- which is where fundraising comes in. That is why we have a support team, so that we can offer our teaching for free to those who need it.

If you have any questions regarding the way we teach the Bible or any other questions about our life as missionaries, please just send us a message, we would love to share more.
